Ann Marie Alvey, Pro-Life Ministries Coordinator for the Archdiocese of Kansas City in Kansas, is the current Director of the Gabriel Project.
History of the Project
Gabriel Project is a program that originated in Texas. At the 2009 National Conference for Life, the Archdiocesan Pro-Life Consultant at that time, Ron Kelsey, discovered the Gabriel Project. He immediately thought of Holy Cross as a church to pilot the program. With Fr. Mark Mertes’ permission and prayerful consideration, a group of women led by Leah Connor began The Gabriel Project as an extension of the Holy Cross Pro-Life Ministry. They purchased a phone, rights to the image of the archangel Gabriel and trained eight women to serve as “Gabriel Moms” or “Angels.” They established a group for prayer support and were presented to the parish in February of 2010. As of 2016 they have assisted approximately seventy women and the number continues to grow.
Gabriel Project operates under the Pro-Life Office of the Archdiocese of Kansas City in Kansas. Since then many members of numerous churches in the archdiocese have become involved in this ministry. We serve women in both Kansas and Missouri.
